IGA Supermarkets launch Margaret River appeal

Prime7w1 November 29, 2011, 7:49 pm

Western Australian IGA retailers have announced a fund raising campaign to help individuals and communities affected by the devastating bushfires in the Margaret River region.

The campaign was kicked off with a $25,000 donation from the IGA Community Chest Fund and independent retailers are making it easy for customers to make their own donations via IGA stores throughout WA.

Donations will be collected through the cash register when customers buy groceries at their local IGA store with the money going directly to the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund.

Customers simply tell checkout staff the amount they would like to donate and then make the donation in cash or through their credit card. The amount will be printed on their checkout receipt.

IGA General Manager WA, Paul Slaughter said that all IGA stores would be accepting donations.

"Many West Australian families have been left with nothing and need both time and money to rebuild their homes and businesses.

Through our Community Chest Fund we have supported both Queenslanders and Carnarvon flood victims, and the people affected by the Roleystone bushfires. We wanted to respond to this latest tragedy as quickly as possible and support the locals," he said.
