    Today, events have been held in Sydney and Melbourne as the "I Do" campaign headed by Australian Marriage Equality, GetUp!, marie claire magazine and Sunrise aims to collect signatures for a petition to legalise same-sex marriage.

    The high profile campaign has generated support from some of Australian celebrities including Rachael Taylor, Jennifer Hawkins, Megan Gale and Magda Szubanski.

    In the coming weeks a Senate and a House of Representatives inquiry into marriage equality will be released. And, in a few months, members of parliament will vote to determine whether or not same-sex couples will be afforded the same legal right to marry.

    I DO - I want my friends who are in a same-sex relationship to have the same rights I do.

    I support equality and equal access rights for a gay couple in a union, but I can't support the use of the term ' marriage' for same sex couples.
